At 37 years old, Luka Modrić was still scoring important goals for Real Madrid. On 22 October 2022, he opened the scoring after just five minutes against Sevilla at the Bernabéu. Sevilla equalised in the second half, but Lucas Vázquez and Federico Valverde scored late to give Madrid a 3-1 win. It was another reminder of how important Modrić remained to the team, more than ten years after joining the club.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Modrić Scored After Just Five Minutes Against Sevilla at 37

On 22 October 2022, Real Madrid faced Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu. Just five minutes into the match, Vinícius Júnior won the ball high up the pitch and passed across goal to Luka Modrić. The Croatian finished from close range to give Madrid an early lead. At 37, he was still making a difference in big La Liga matches.

Sevilla equalised through Erik Lamela in the second half, but Madrid responded late in the game. Lucas Vázquez scored in the 79th minute and Federico Valverde added another two minutes later. Madrid won 3-1 and continued their unbeaten start to the season.

The 2022/23 season was Modrić's 11th at Real Madrid. He had already won five Champions League titles with the club, but he was still an important part of Carlo Ancelotti's midfield. Madrid went on to win the Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup that season. The white Adidas shirt with purple details also celebrated Real Madrid's 120th anniversary, making it a special design from another successful year in Modrić's career.
