Asensio Ended His Only Espanyol Season With His First-Ever La Liga Brace

Marco Asensio arrived at Espanyol in summer 2015 as a 19-year-old Real Madrid loanee, with Madrid keeping full control of his future and Espanyol receiving no purchase option. He was given No. 25 and spent the year getting his first proper run of top-flight football.

By the final game of the season, he was ready to leave a proper goodbye. Against Eibar at the RCDE Stadium, Asensio scored twice in a 4-2 victory, with Espanyol’s own match report describing him and Gerard Moreno as the pair who decided the game.

His performances were strong enough for LaLiga to later nominate him for Breakthrough Player of the 2015/16 season. That one-year Espanyol chapter is what makes this shirt work so well: Asensio 25, before the Champions League titles and Madrid spotlight, from the season where he properly introduced himself to La Liga.
