The PSG Shirt in Michael Jordan’s Championship Colour

There is a reason this PSG shirt looks more like a pair of Jordans than a traditional football kit.

For 2019/20, Jordan Brand covered PSG’s away shirt in Infrared, a colour first made famous by the Air Jordan VI in 1991. That sneaker has a major place in basketball history: Michael Jordan wore the Air Jordan VI during the 1991 playoffs, when he went on to win the first NBA championship of his career.

Almost three decades later, the same colour moved onto a football pitch. PSG unveiled the shirt at the Jordan store in Shenzhen during their 2019 tour of China, with more than 200 fans attending the launch. The team then wore it for the first time against Inter Milan on 27 July.

It also marked an important step in the PSG-Jordan partnership. In the previous season, Jordan’s football shirts had mainly been associated with PSG’s Champions League campaign. In 2019/20, the Jumpman became the logo on their official away kit, meaning it appeared in domestic football as well as Europe.

Mbappé 7 finished the shortened Ligue 1 campaign with 18 goals and was officially named the league’s top scorer for the second year running.
