Cantona Won the League Then Retired at 30

By 1996/97, Cantona was captain of Manchester United and still the player setting the tone for the team. He made 36 league appearances, scored 11 goals and finished with a league-high 12 assists as United won another Premier League title.

The season had all the classic Cantona stuff too. He scored that famous chip against Sunderland, helped United through another title race and remained the reference point for a side full of younger players like Beckham and the Nevilles. Manchester United later described him as an inspiration to that generation throughout the campaign.

Then, almost out of nowhere, he stopped. In May 1997, only weeks after helping United win the league, Cantona retired at 30, saying later that he had simply lost the passion to keep playing. So this white Cantona 7 isn’t just another 90s United away shirt, it comes from the final season of one of the most recognisable careers in Premier League history, which gives it a pretty special place in any United collection.
