Karl Got Germany’s No. 25 for the World Cup, Then Got Injured the Day Before the Final Warm-Up

Germany unveiled this away shirt in March 2026 and its first-ever match appearance came against Switzerland on 27 March. That game also became a huge personal moment for Lennart Karl: the 18-year-old Bayern midfielder came on for Leroy Sané in the 63rd minute to make his senior Germany debut. Germany eventually won a wild game 4-3.

By June, Karl had gone from newcomer to World Cup squad member. Germany officially assigned him shirt No. 25.

Then came the brutal part. On 5 June, during Germany’s final training session in Chicago before the USA friendly, Karl suffered a muscle-fibre tear in the front of his left thigh. The DFB immediately ruled him out of the World Cup and called up Assan Ouédraogo in his place. So this Karl 25 shirt represents a genuine World Cup squad configuration that was officially assigned to him, but one he never got the chance to wear at the tournament itself.
