The Feyenoord Shirt That Broke a Sales Record Before a Ball Was Kicked

Those faint vertical lines running through the red and white aren’t just texture. Feyenoord deliberately built them into the 2023/24 shirt to celebrate the centenary of the club’s first national title in 1924, with the design also launched during the 50th anniversary season of the famous 1974 UEFA Cup victory over Tottenham.

It also marked a complete change behind the scenes. After nine seasons with adidas, Feyenoord moved to Castore for 2023/24, making this the first home shirt of the new partnership. The demand was immediate: supporters queued outside the club shops before opening, the online store was hit by an unprecedented traffic spike and Feyenoord announced a record first-day turnover.

And the timing could hardly have been better. Feyenoord entered the season as reigning Dutch champions and returned to the Champions League group stage for the first time in six years, beating Celtic 2-0 and Lazio 3–-1 at De Kuip. So this wasn’t simply a new supplier putting out another red-and-white shirt, it arrived exactly as Feyenoord stepped back onto Europe’s biggest stage.
