THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

One of Only 400 Christmas Shirts

Most Christmas football shirts are modern marketing drops produced in large numbers. FC Sion’s 2012 version was much harder to come by.

Erreà created a special long-sleeve shirt for the 2012/13 festive period, complete with red cuffs, falling stars and “Noël 2012” worked into the design. Only 400 examples were released and each received its own individual number. This one is 297/400.

It also comes from an unusual FC Sion season. The squad included Gennaro Gattuso, Kyle Lafferty and several established internationals, but the shirt’s real appeal is not a forced connection to one player or match. It is the fact that the club temporarily replaced its normal look with something made specifically for Christmas and produced fewer of them than many clubs now sell in a single afternoon.

Number 297 is the detail that makes this example personal. Another collector may own the same design, but they cannot own the same numbered shirt.
