The No. 32 Before Fermín Became a First-Team Player

The 32 on this shirt was never meant to last forever.

Fermín López began 2023/24 as a Barça Atlètic player trying to break into Xavi’s first team. When he made his official senior debut against Villarreal on 27 August 2023, number 32 was on his back.

He quickly made the number his own. Fermín played 22 first-team matches wearing 32 and scored three goals before his status changed completely. On 30 January 2024, Barcelona officially registered him as a first-team player and gave him number 16, a shirt previously worn by players including Xavi, Sergio Busquets and Pedri.

By the end of his breakout campaign, Fermín had played 42 competitive matches and scored 11 goals for Barça.

The shirt has another hidden story too. Nike placed a diamond around the Barça crest as a tribute to the pioneering women who formed the club’s first women’s team and played at the stadium in 1970.

So this Fermín 32 version captures a very short window: after his breakthrough began, but before he officially became a first-team player.
