Barça’s First-Ever Fourth Kit Debuted With an 86th-Minute Messi Winner

This shirt quietly broke a Barcelona tradition. When it appeared in November 2019, it became part of the first season in club history with four different match strips, created specifically to put the Catalan Senyera front and centre. Its four red bars were rotated diagonally across the yellow base under the campaign “Ho portem dins” (“It’s deep within us.”)

Then came its debut. Barça wore it for the first time away to Atlético Madrid on 1 December 2019, in a game that stayed goalless until the 86th minute. Messi exchanged passes with Luis Suárez and curled the winner past Jan Oblak, giving the brand-new shirt an immediate 1-0 victory at the Wanda Metropolitano.

And unlike most modern football shirts, it didn’t disappear after one season. Barça carried the same Senyera design into 2020/21 and continued using it for selected special fixtures.
