Luis Suárez scored three goals as Barcelona beat Real Madrid 5-1 on 28 October 2018 and Lionel Messi wasn't even playing. With Messi injured, Suárez led Barcelona's attack and scored his first hat-trick in El Clásico. It was also the first Clásico hat-trick at Camp Nou since Messi did it in 2007. Barcelona finished the match with five goals and Suárez was the main reason why.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Suárez Scored a Hat-Trick Against Real Madrid Without Messi on the Pitch

On 28 October 2018, Barcelona faced Real Madrid at Camp Nou without Lionel Messi, who was recovering from a broken arm. Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring in the 11th minute and Suárez doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 30th. Barcelona went into half-time 2-0 ahead, but Madrid weren't finished.

Marcelo scored early in the second half to make it 2-1, putting Barcelona under pressure. Then Suárez took over. In the 75th minute, he scored a header from Sergi Roberto's cross. Eight minutes later, he completed his hat-trick with a chipped finish over Thibaut Courtois. Arturo Vidal added a fifth and Barcelona won 5-1.

It was Suárez's first hat-trick against Real Madrid and the first by any Barcelona player in a Clásico at Camp Nou for 11 years. He finished the 2018/19 season with 25 goals in all competitions, helping Barcelona win another La Liga title. This Nike home shirt is connected to one of his best performances for the club, on a day when Barcelona proved they could beat their biggest rivals even without Messi.
