Piqué didn’t score many, but one of his four goals in 2017/18 came in a Champions League quarter-final against Roma. He tapped in Barça’s third in a 4-1 win at Camp Nou, adding another European goal to an unusually strong scoring record for a centre-back. This example has the domestic La Liga sleeve setup rather than the UEFA patches from that night, but it’s the same home design from a season in which Piqué helped Barça win the league-and-cup double.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Piqué Scored in a Champions League Quarter-Final Wearing This Home Design

Gerard Piqué played 49 times for Barcelona in 2017/18, starting regularly in an Ernesto Valverde side that went almost the entire league season unbeaten. He finished the campaign with four goals while helping Barça win both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

His biggest goal of the season came at Camp Nou against Roma in the Champions League quarter-finals. With Barça already 2-0 ahead, Luis Suárez’s shot was saved and Piqué followed it in to make it 3-0, helping Barça win the first leg 4-1. It was another entry in a surprisingly long European scoring record: Piqué later became Barça’s highest-scoring defender in Champions League history.

As a Piqué 3 from a double-winning season, with the first Rakuten Barça home design and a proper European goal attached to the story, it’s a very nice piece from the later part of his peak Barça years.
