Thiago Scored, Then Assisted Messi and Alexis in Barça's 5-0 Win

On 29 August 2011, Barcelona played their first La Liga match of the season against Villarreal at Camp Nou. Pep Guardiola gave 20-year-old Thiago Alcântara a starting place alongside Andrés Iniesta and Cesc Fàbregas. In the 25th minute, Thiago carried the ball towards the penalty area and scored with a low shot past Diego López.

But Thiago wasn't finished. Early in the second half, he played a clever pass over Villarreal's defence for Alexis Sánchez, who scored his first La Liga goal for Barcelona. Later, Thiago assisted Lionel Messi for the fifth goal. Barcelona finished with a 5-0 victory and Thiago had scored once and assisted twice.

The 2011/12 season was Thiago's first full campaign as a member of Barcelona's senior squad. He had grown up in La Masia and was now playing alongside Xavi, Iniesta and Messi. It was also Guardiola's final season as manager, ending with Barcelona winning the Copa del Rey. The black Nike away shirt was introduced that summer and later carried over as the third kit for 2012/13, the season before Thiago left for Bayern Munich.
