Beckham’s No.7 in England’s Six-Goal Euro Thriller

Umbro introduced this red England away shirt for the 2004/06 period and its most memorable competitive appearance came at Euro 2004. England wore the design against Croatia in their final group match, with David Beckham captaining the team in No.7.

The match started horribly. Niko Kovač put Croatia ahead after only five minutes, leaving England temporarily heading out of the tournament. Paul Scholes equalised before half-time and then 18-year-old Wayne Rooney struck moments before the break to turn the game around.

Rooney scored again in the second half before Frank Lampard completed a 4-2 victory, sending England into the quarter-finals. It was Rooney’s fourth goal of Euro 2004 and UEFA records Beckham afterwards praising the teenager’s ability to handle the pressure of such a major game.
