Just weeks after arriving from Reggina, Shunsuke Nakamura scored his first-ever Celtic goal wearing this green away shirt. At Dunfermline on 28 August 2005, Maciej Żurawski picked him out inside the area and Nakamura swept a left-footed finish home to make it 3-0 in a 4-0 win. Even better, Żurawski also scored his first Celtic goals that afternoon, two new signings announcing themselves in the same match.

Nakamura Scored His First Celtic Goal in This Shirt

Nakamura had only joined Celtic that summer after three seasons in Serie A with Reggina. His debut came against Dundee United on 6 August, where everyone remembers his vision and creativity as the standout feature of a 2-0 win. Three weeks later, he finally had his first goal.

At East End Park against Dunfermline, Celtic were already 2-0 ahead when Żurawski turned away from a defender and waited for Nakamura’s run. The Japanese midfielder arrived in the box and swept the ball home left-footed in the 58th minute, scoring his first goal for the club. Celtic won 4-0.

There was a neat symmetry to the afternoon: Żurawski scored twice and those were his first Celtic goals too. Nakamura would go on to produce far more famous moments in Glasgow, especially his free-kicks against Manchester United, but this is the shirt connected to where his Celtic scoring story actually started.
