THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The Season Aubameyang Became Unstoppable

This black Puma away shirt comes from Thomas Tuchel’s first season in charge of Borussia Dortmund. Thin yellow pinstripes gave it a darker, sharper look than the club’s traditional home colours. 

Aubameyang wore number 17 and produced the best league season of his career up to that point. He scored 25 Bundesliga goals in 31 appearances, finishing behind only Robert Lewandowski in the scoring table. 

Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga and reached both the DFB-Pokal final and the Europa League quarter-finals. Aubameyang scored during the dramatic second leg at Liverpool, although Dortmund eventually lost 4–3 on the night. 

That season was when Aubameyang stopped feeling like simply another fast forward and became Dortmund’s main star. His runs, celebrations and constant goals made number 17 impossible to ignore.
