Argentina finished their 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign with 13 wins, four draws and just one defeat. Under Marcelo Bielsa, they collected 43 points and finished 12 ahead of second-placed Ecuador. Players like Gabriel Batistuta, Juan Sebastián Verón and Javier Zanetti were part of a team that looked almost impossible to beat. The campaign also took place during Reebok's short partnership with Argentina, before Adidas returned in 2001.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Argentina Won 13 of 18 World Cup Qualifiers Under Bielsa

On 29 March 2000, Argentina started their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-1 win over Chile in Buenos Aires. Gabriel Batistuta opened the scoring after ten minutes, while Juan Sebastián Verón scored twice. Claudio López added the fourth. It was a great start for Marcelo Bielsa's team.

Argentina kept winning. They beat Venezuela 4-0, Colombia 3-1 and Uruguay 2-1 during 2000. By the end of qualifying in 2001, they had won 13 of their 18 matches and lost only once. They finished with 43 points, comfortably ahead of every other South American team, including Brazil.

This was also an unusual period in Argentina's shirt history. After years with Adidas, the national team switched to Reebok in 1999. The partnership lasted only until 2001, when Adidas returned. The 2000/01 home shirt, with its navy collar and traditional light-blue stripes, is part of that short Reebok era and a reminder of one of Argentina's strongest World Cup qualifying campaigns.
